Why look for something else
Flowers are the safe answer, which is why everyone gives them. They are lovely on the day, in the bin by the weekend, and forgotten by the next one.
A chocolate box with a photograph on it costs about the same as a decent bouquet. It is opened in front of everyone, the picture gets passed around, and the box itself is usually kept.
When it works better than flowers
- A birthday, when three people have already arrived with roses.
- 8 March and 14 February, when the florists have doubled their prices.
- An apology, where flowers say the obvious and a photograph says something of your own.
